ALAN JOHNSON SCORES COCA-COLA DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE WIN AT FULTON
FULTON, NY...Alan Johnson was perfect last Saturday night at Fulton Speedway. The talented driver from Phelps, N.Y. won both the DIRT Big Block Modified feature as well as the 358 Modified feature on Coca-Cola Night. Both victories came in the Jeff Rudalavage owned, WPC Associates sponsored rides.
Dave Rauscher jumped out to the early lead at the start of the Coca-Cola DIRT Big Block Modified main event. Rauscher would lead the first three circuits. Tim Sears took the top spot away from Rauscher on lap four. With ten laps complete Sears continued to lead and was being followed in the top five by Vinnie Vitale, Dave Axton, Matt Sheppard and Rauscher.
Sears would lead the field through lap-17. Vinnie Vitale took command of the field at that point, which was the halfway mark of the fast paced event. Sears, Sheppard, Johnson, Axton, Ryan Phelps, Billy Decker, Jeff Rudalavage, Scott Prentice and Tim Fuller raced in positions second through tenth at the halfway stage of the race. Vitale would lead through lap-22.
It was on lap-23 when Johnson took the lead away from Vitale. Johnson worked up masterfully from the 15th starting position to take the lead without the help of a caution period to group the field together. Sheppard followed Johnson and was able to stay within striking distance, but the multi-time Fulton and DIRT Champion never made a mistake.
Johnson was the winner of the first DIRT 358 Modified feature race of the season last Saturday night. Dale Planck, Steve Hulsizer, Matt Sheppard and Tim Sears completed the top five feature finishers in the 12-lap main event. Planck led the first three circuits before Johnson slipped by. The duo ran side by side for well over half of the event.
Greg Doust won his first 20-lap DIRT Sportsman feature race of the season last Saturday night. Kevin Bates, Joey Williams, Jeremy Pitcher and Dave Reilley completed the top five feature finishers behind Doust. On lap nine Doust took the top spot away from Pitcher and never slowed from that point. Bates won the battle for second and maintained his point lead in the division.
Ray Maloney also earned his first feature win of the season last Saturday with this triumph coming in the 20-lap DIRT Pro Stock finale. Joe Stefanski, Dick Parkhurst, T.J. Fitzgibbons and Jack Terrell finished in positions second through fifth respectively. Maloney took the top spot away from Ricky Breed on lap three and held off all challengers in the rest of the event.
Phil Marsden won his second straight 15-lap Pure Stock feature race last Saturday night. Chad Crouse, Rusty Marsden, Dan Hofmann Sr. and Ron Hawker rounded out the top five feature finishers. Phil Marsden took the lead away from Hofmann on lap-12 and held on for the victory over a tough field of competitors. The race was only slowed for one minor caution period.
Jerry Herbert earned the victory in the rain delayed Four Cylinder Enduro from May 21. Mike Watkins, Matt Wetter. Mark Johnston and Marjorie Wallace completed the top five feature finishers.
Chad Guthrie was the winner of the nights' scheduled Four Cylinder Enduro. Jerry Herbert, Kelly Smith, Dan Slosek and Dan Hofmann Jr. chased Guthrie across the finish line in positions second through fifth.
