If you own a Corvette or share America’s love for the Vette, Corvettes at Carlisle is your car haven. In its 24th year, the largest Vette gathering in the world is home to some 2,500 Corvettes and thousands of vendors selling memorabilia, Vettabilia, car parts and accessories galore. This year’s Vette spectacular is scheduled for Aug. 26-28 at the 82-acre Carlisle Fairgrounds.

Known for its anniversary extravaganzas, Carlisle Events is presenting a 50th anniversary celebration with select 1955 Corvettes. Generations of racers will unite at the Corvette Race Car Reunion, featuring C4, C5 and C6 race cars. And there will be a 10th and 15th anniversary ZR-1 Reunion.

You can see Lance Miller’s Carlisle Callaway Corvette C6 and the quest for increased horsepower to becoming a 10-second quarter-mile car, as well as body and interior enhancements.

Add to that a benefit auction for Amyloidosis Research, a dyno center where you can test your horsepower, parade to downtown, a cook-off, trivia quiz and a carload of surprises, and you have Corvettes at Carlisle.

You can come out and talk to the engineers who built the Vettes. See and hear about the latest and greatest that GM has to offer, including the all-new Z06. Several of the GM engineers who created the Corvette will be on hand to answer any of your questions. Dave Hill, Corvette chief engineer, and Wil Cooksey, Corvette plant manager, will also sign autographs, and GM reps will give away posters and a Z06 lapel pin while supplies last.

The National Corvette Restorers Society will be on hand to present an ever-changing unique Corvette collection in a true gallery exhibit format. This enables non-NCRS members to have a better understanding of the National Corvette Restorers Society, its goals and purposes. Sponsored by West Coast Corvettes, the NCCC judged show field is hosted by York County Corvette Club. Up to 175 of the finest Corvettes will compete for cash prizes on the NCCC judged show field. Also, all Corvettes parked in the Fun Display show field are eligible to win Celebrity Pick awards.

At noon on Saturday, all Corvette owners are requested to rev their Corvettes’ engines for 20 seconds, following by a moment of silence, in tribute to Chip Miller.

To test your skills, you can try out the Carlisle Events’ Autocross. Sponsored by Cumberland Valley Corvette Club, each driver will get three or four chances to run the course. The fee is $20 for 1 hour. CVCC will have instructors for each session to watch or ride with and advise the novice drivers. It’s a learning event for those interested in the sport or just learning how to handle their Corvette and a chance for experienced drivers to compete against each other for fastest time.

Want a Vette? Want to sell one? An auction, produced by Mecum Auction, takes place Friday and Saturday. Saturday morning, a special auction will benefit the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation. Pre-register for sales or bidding numbers by calling (815) 568-8888 or go on-line to www.mecumauction.com. You may also register at the show.
