SPEED CHANNEL EXPANDS LIVE
COVERAGE OF 35th ANNIVERSARY BARRETT-JACKSON AUCTION IN
SCOTTSDALE
Network Will Air 32 Live Hours
during Auction Week
The Barrett-Jackson Auction
Company and SPEED Channel announced that live television coverage
of the January 2006 Barrett-Jackson Worlds Greatest
Collector Car Event will expand by 33 percent. Due to
popular demand, SPEED will broadcast 32 hours of live action over
six days, up from 24 hours last year. The 35th Anniversary
Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale event will be held January 17
22, 2006, at WestWorld with the annual Opening Night gala to kick
off the auction on Monday, January 16.
Weve valued and
expanded our relationship with SPEED Channel, the foremost
network for automotive enthusiasts, since 1997, said Craig
Jackson, president of Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. Interest
is high in our automotive lifestyle events and having the cameras
around when vehicles go over the block certainly kicks up the
energy level even more. Everyone wants to be part of the
automotive worlds original reality TV experience.
The live broadcast of Barrett-Jacksons
Scottsdale event is scheduled for four hours on Tuesday, January
17th, Wednesday, January 18th and Thursday, January 19th (5:00-9:00pm
MST) and seven hours coverage on Friday, January 20th (3:00-10:00pm
MST), nine hours on Saturday, January 21st (12:00 noon-9:00pm MST),
wrapping up with four hours on Sunday, January 22nd (12:00 noon-4:00pm
MST). To warm up SPEED Channel viewers for the 2006 event, SPEED
Channel will also air a 24-hour TV marathon of the record-setting
2005 auction on January 1, 2006 starting at 12:00 a.m.
SPEED Channel has produced live
coverage of the Barrett-Jackson Worlds Greatest Collector
Car Events, held each January in Scottsdale, Ariz., since 1997
and in Palm Beach, Fla., in April, since 2002. The event was the
first collector car auction to be televised live. For car
collectors and enthusiasts, it has become a must see
television show for those who are unable to attend.
"Feedback from the live SPEED
Channel auction coverage of the 2005 Scottsdale event was so
strong that we expanded our programming by 33 percent," said
SPEED Channel Executive VP & General Manager Hunter Nickell.
"With the increased popularity of the Barrett-Jacksons
Worlds Greatest Classic Car Events, it makes sense for us to give
our viewers a closer look at one of the most exciting live events
on television today. Even the replays of the 2005 auction
consistently rate high with our viewers."
The Barrett-Jackson
Collector Car Auction continues to grow in scope and the
television coverage must grow with it, said Rick Miner,
SPEED Channel Sr. VP of Programming/Production. As the
quality of the vehicles and the excitement of the auction
increases, SPEEDs coverage will expand accordingly.
Each year, Barrett-Jackson
reaffirms its leadership position in the collector car market by
elevating consignment standards, breaking annual records, and
serving as the barometer for market trends. Last year, Barrett-Jackson
announced its most successful car auction to date with record-breaking
sales in all categories, including overall attendance, world-class
street rods, muscle, sports and classic cars during the 34th
annual Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Event.
